Site recce is complete and we've worked out what will happen and where. This is going to be a very full day, with an early start and a late afternoon finish, I reckon 0600hrs to about 1700hrs (that's what I call value for money!).
We ask that you get "in character" for this, that is, pay attention to the subject matter and apply it as best you can. Each "lesson" will be layered over previous ones, with a mini exercise at the end for you to practice all that you've learned through the day. There will be a short lunch break but that's it. People are paying to learn and play, not to sit around comparing ration menus! Total distance covered is about 3km, at least half of which will be carrying full kit, in a fully tactical situation.
Between now and the event, make sure your kit is comfortable and you can actually carry it all! One of my favourite instructor phrases is - "Adjust your kit when you come to a halt, don't come to a halt to adjust your kit", not quite "march or die" but, you get the gist .
We've got a "free gift" lined up for attendees as well, which you will find useful on the day .

On a scale of 1-10, what sort of minimum fitness level should we be aiming to reach beforehand?
1 = Homer Simpson
10 = Sportacus
Personally I find leg-strenthening excercises to be hugely beneficial before a full kit event, otherwise my old man knees hurt like buggery by lunchtime.
I wouldn't say you need any level of fitness for the training day, just a good mindset. I had no aches or pains the day after the site recce and I'm almost 43, have dodgy knees and have barely recovered from meningitis. Of course, it's always nice to have a level of fitness and the site for the actual Jedburgh "main event" is pretty hilly in places.

I was planning on being a late booking for this, but as i'm still signed off sick until the end of the month, It's looking unlikely that my ribs will hold up to it.
Good luck guys!
OK, here's my first attempt. I am carrying all the kit I will be on the event itself: 3 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of gloves, first aid kit, knife, insect repellant, tissues, wet wipes, loo roll, 12 metres of rope, groundsheet, Zeltbahn, 5 litres of water, 24 hours of rations, toque, sleeping bag, thermals, compass, mess tins, cup, spork, pistol with 2 mags, SMG with 5 mags, speedloader... I think that's about it.

Immediate thoughts: DMS boots have almost no ankle support, even with puttees. I will probably wear BCH. Denisons are hellishly hot. I will probably have to wear some Jerry HBT trousers to offset that. Also, the cap comforter will be too warm, but I'm unsure what to wear instead. (I chose the cap comforter because it can be decorated with foliage.) I'm not wearing a helmet for 24 hours! Would a green beret be suitable? If so, what insignia (if any) ?

Looking hard as nails Andy
Jeds could wear the headdress and cap badge of their original regiment.
A beret is fine, although you'll still find that hot too! "Parent Regiment" beret & badge combination is the ideal if you want to wear a beret. I'm wearing a mountain cap personally! Although, you could get away with a US hbt cap, or even a captured german camo one, if you already have them.
Edit - Looking good Andy! I'm seriously impressed that you got it all in a large & small pack! You've managed to capture that "brigand" look of behind the lines troops.

Yesterday evening I tried on all my gear and TBH it didn't look nearly as good as Andy's. The bergen/beret combo looks too Falklands War. I need to find a lot more non standard kit.
The load is also comically heavy. Did I read somewehere thaty we need to add radio packs?
Don't forget in reality you won't be humping ALL you kit with you for 24hrs - why would you, its heavy! Do as the Jeds did and find a safe harbour area to stash non-operational kit. Again, Pete will be covering all this on the training day.
Thank you for your kind words, Pete and Martin. I'm glad I haven't come across as extremely macho in the Ricky Martin way!
Yes, of course we're all after the "brigand" non-standard look, but the amusing thing is that my kit is pretty much as standard as it gets, with the exception of the P38 on my belt. I was worried that I looked far too "normal"!
Thanks for the tip about the HBT cap - hopefully, I can borrow one off Tug.

I'm not much of one for posting "myself in kit" pictures but, here's a quick snap of my costume choice for the training day. Denison smock, belt kit, face veil, mountain cap, "mustard" wool trousers, US jump boots and my trusty Sten (In fact, the SAS and Jed's tended to shun the Sten, preferring the Thompson or the MP40 but, my Sten gets little use!). Obviously, there's a bergen to add to it as well!

Why does everyone else look like nails in this clobber, whereas I look like some scary Boy Scout leader

maybe it's something to do with your woggle?
I think I look more "screw" than "nail", geddit?

You must have a poor body image, Martin! Come on, post 'em up.

Yeah! Do it!

Do it !!!!
Doooooooo iiiiittt!
Yeah! Do it!
I feel like I'm being "groomed".
Very well, here is the lastest incarnation:
I've gone for Brit denims with BCH, no gaiters or puttees by choice.
"captured" zelt, P37 belt & Canadian pistol holster with 1911,
'44 pattern water bottle and the mythical 6 cell MP40 pouches that are too heavy and will be swapped for a single 3 cell one. Beret & Herts Regt. badge 'cos I've got a pic of my granddad wearing one.
I'm not too sure about the Bren pouches, might ditch them in favour of a resi bag on a strap.
I'm still sweating like Fred West's paper boy even in this lightweight ensemble. Plus I need to lose about a stone in weight before the event
